Apartment Building Fire in Auburn Ruled Accidental

The Office of State Fire Marshal has completed its investigation into a structure fire that occurred on June 9, at 39 James Street in Auburn.

From the State Fire Marshal:

The fire was reported at approximately 10:30 am involving a two-unit residential building. The second-floor unit, which was unoccupied and undergoing renovations, sustained significant fire damage. The first-floor unit was occupied at the time, but no injuries were reported. Based on the scene examination and information gathered, the fire has been classified as accidental in nature. FMO Investigators noted that renovation materials and debris were present in the affected area, and the fire appeared to have originated on the second level toward the rear of the structure. The Office of State Fire Marshal reminds property owners and contractors to handle and dispose of renovation materials in accordance with product safety guidelines to help prevent similar incidents.
