UPDATE:

From the Augusta Police Department:

On January 22nd at approximately 11:00pm, Officers from the Augusta Police Department responded to 132 Northern Avenue, Augusta for a report of a male subject armed with a firearm, threatening other residents at that location. The male subject was later identified as Liban S. Mohamed (22yo) Lewiston (LKA) resident. He was later located inside the residence and was deceased. None of the Officers were injured as a result of this incident. The Maine State Police, Augusta Police and the Attorney General’s Office continue to investigate the incident.

As is standard practice during every officer involved shooting, this incident is currently being investigated by the Office of the Attorney General, who will focus upon the use of deadly force by law enforcement. Per our Standard Operating Procedure, Sergeant Derek Daley, Officer Matthew Gurney, Officer Andrew Frost and Officer Jonathan Young have been placed on administrative leave with pay.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this incident.

Late last night, Jan. 21, according to Augusta Police, an armed man was shot by police on Northern Avenue in Augusta. The shooting occurred after the man allegedly shot at officers when they arrived on scene.

Police say no officers were injured in the shooting. The man shot by police is in an unknown condition. The incident is being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office.
