Boy Scout Camp in Belgrade is Closer to Preventing Commercial Development

The goal has been to save Camp Bomazeen from being used for commercial development and now, they’re a step closer to success.

The 7 Lakes Alliance has raised enough money to move forward with plans to buy and conserve nearly 300 acres at Camp Bomazeen on Great Pond in Belgrade.

The conservation group launched a $3 million fundraising campaign about a month ago and says the community responded with strong financial support, according to a KJ article.

But the purchase isn’t complete yet. The alliance is conducting environmental and septic inspections and working with the Pine Tree Council of Scouting America, which owns the property, to finalize the sale.

The group plans to keep the property available for scouting while exploring limited public access, potentially including trails.

Officials say a future management plan will be shaped by input from Belgrade residents, local organizations and other stakeholders, with conservation remaining the primary goal.
