According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, a routine traffic stop for an equipment violation led to the seizure of approximately one pound of cocaine and more than $5,000 in cash.
Deputy Winslow, Oct. 27, stopped a red 2021 Ram truck on U.S. Route 1 in Newcastle. The driver was identified as 44-year-old Stephen Treadway of Brunswick, who was on probation at the time.
During a probation search of the vehicle, the deputy discovered a one-pound package of white powder that field-tested positive for cocaine. Authorities also seized $5,422 in cash and a digital scale. The street value of the confiscated cocaine is estimated at $40,000.
Treadway was arrested and charged with Aggravated Trafficking of Scheduled Drugs (Class A) and Violation of Probation.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case.
