Maine State Fire Marshal investigators have ruled an intense fire< May 24, at a Main Street building in Wilton as accidental, with the blaze originating at a coffee roaster inside Chaos Coffee Café. The Wilton Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 6:57 p.m. on May 24, to 430 Main Street for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire conditions on the rear right side of the three-story wood-frame building, which houses Chaos Coffee Café on the ground floor, along with a rental unit and an apartment on the upper levels. Firefighters quickly attacked the flames, but the fire caused extensive damage to the rear portion of the café and its food preparation area. Smoke, heat, overhaul operations, and water damage spread throughout the entire structure, leaving the building uninhabitable. A female tenant suffered smoke inhalation during the incident. She was transported by Maine Health Ambulance to Maine Health Franklin Hospital in Farmington, where she was treated and released. No firefighter injuries were reported. Mutual aid support was provided by the Farmington, Jay, East Dixfield, and Chesterville Fire Departments, assisting Wilton firefighters in bringing the blaze under control. According to the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office, investigators determined the fire originated in the first-floor food preparation area at a coffee roaster. The incident has been officially classified as accidental. The building sustained significant structural and content damage, particularly in the café area. Officials have not yet released estimates of the total financial loss.
