UPDATE: The body located on the banks of the Aroostook River in Caribou on Tuesday, April 23, has been identified by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner as 39-year-old Erik Foote of Washburn. The cause and manner of death are pending at this time.

Maine State Police says a body was discovered on the bank of the Aroostook River in Caribou.

Police say the body of a male was found between the dam and Fort Street, yesterday afternoon, April 23.

The body was sent to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be performed.

From Maine State Police:

The Maine State Police and Caribou Police Department are investigating the discovery of a body located on the bank of the Aroostook River between the dam and Fort Street at approximately 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. The deceased male will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine positive identification and cause and manner of death. The Maine State Police and Caribou Police Department were assisted on scene by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and Caribou Fire and Rescue.
