An Ellsworth man has died after suffering severe burns in a suspected propane explosion inside a converted bus used as an RV.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal identified the victim as 59-year-old Bruce Spencer. The explosion happened around 3 p.m. July 14 at a property on North Street in Ellsworth.
Investigators believe propane ignited inside a cabinet beneath the stove, with the refrigerator’s electric compressor motor the likely ignition source. They have not determined where the propane leak originated.
The bus was powered by two 25-pound propane cylinders. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
