Two adults were trapped early this morning in a house fire at 126 5th Avenue in Madawaska.

62-year-old Gary Levesque died in the blaze. His sister, 70-year-old Diana Levesque, was rescued.

From Maine State Police:

On Friday, February 16, 2024, at approximately 12:39 am, the Madawaska Fire and Police Departments responded to a fire at 126 5th Avenue where two adults were trapped inside the single-family home. Two police officers who arrived on scene first were able to enter the residence and rescue an adult female. She was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center and later transported via Lifeflight to a hospital in Southern Maine. An adult male was trapped inside the residence and could not be rescued. The Fire Marshal’s office responded to the scene and started an investigation. The deceased was located and transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy. The deceased is believed to be 62-year-old Gary Levesque. His sister 70-year-old Diana Levesque was the person who was rescued from the residence. They lived together at the home. The investigation is ongoing but there is no indication of foul play. The two police officers sustained minor injuries while rescuing Levesque. They were treated at a local hospital and released.
