The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department says they received reports of a scam involving someone falsely identifying themselves as “Sgt. Daniels” from their office.
From The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department:
This individual is calling residents and requesting DNA samples. In some cases, the caller may also claim that you have a warrant for your arrest and will try to pressure you into making a payment over the phone using Apple Pay, gift cards, or other untraceable methods. This is a scam.

- Ask for DNA samples over the phone
- Tell you that you have a warrant and demand payment
- Request payment via Apple Pay, gift cards, or any other form over the phone
- Ask for personal or financial information in this manner
