Trevor M. Saunders, 25, who was serving a 45-day sentence, suffered a medical issue and was found unresponsive at the Androscoggin County Jail Saturday night, Nov. 18.

From the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office:

Authorities are currently investigating the death of an inmate at the Androscoggin County Jail which occurred Saturday night at approximately 8:10 pm. The inmate, Trevor M. Saunders, age 25, has been at the jail since October 25, 2023, and was serving a 45-day sentence for Operating After Habitual Offender Revocation.

Saunders appears to have suffered a medical issue and was found unresponsive by an officer while conducting his required checks. Life saving measures including CPR and an AED were immediately used and Auburn Fire-Rescue was immediately called and responded to the jail.

As in all cases of deaths in the jail the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called in to investigate and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was notified. Saunders will be transported to their office in Augusta for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. As part of our protocols the Maine Department of Corrections was also notified and will also conduct their own independent investigation into the matter.

Saunders death does not appear to be suspicious and remains under investigation at this time. Our condolences go out to Saunders’ family and friends.
