The Lewiston Police Department announced continued proactive enforcement efforts over the weekend, building on the arrest of seven juveniles tied to a recent violent assault.
Following arrests and detention of seven juvenile subjects connected to last week’s violent incident, officers maintained heightened visibility and conducted targeted patrols throughout the weekend.
Early Saturday morning, May 1, officers recovered a stolen handgun from two juveniles. Both individuals were charged with Receiving Stolen Property (Class B) and Carrying a Concealed Weapon (Class D). They were issued conditions of release.
Later Saturday evening, during foot patrols, officers confiscated another firearm. One person was charged with multiple offenses: Providing Liquor to a Minor, Unlawful Furnishing of Scheduled Drugs, Refusing to Submit to Arrest, and Failure to Inform Law Enforcement of a Concealed Handgun. A second individual received a summons for Minor Consuming Liquor.
Early Sunday morning, officers recovered yet another stolen firearm, this time from an adult. The individual was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail and charged with Theft by Possession of Stolen Property (Class B), Carrying a Concealed Weapon (Class D), Refusing to Submit to Arrest (Class E), and Falsifying Physical Evidence (Class D).
The department stated it will continue actively pursuing individuals involved in recent violent activity and expects additional charges as the investigation progresses.
“Our top priority is safety,” the Lewiston Police Department emphasized. “Our officers are diligently working additional hours, both visibly and behind the scenes, to address these concerns and ensure our neighborhoods remain safe.”
The updates reflect a broader effort by local law enforcement to curb violence and illegal firearm possession in the wake of recent incidents.
