Lewiston Police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with two quick-succession shootings on the Wednesday evening, July 1. A 60-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were both shot in the face.

The first incident occurred at approximately 11:04 p.m. near Oak Street and Holland Street. Officers responding to a report of a shooting located the male victim suffering from an apparent facial gunshot wound. The victim told police he had been walking when a black or dark blue SUV pulled alongside him. Occupants inside the vehicle yelled at him before a passenger pointed what appeared to be a firearm and fired, striking him in the face. The SUV then fled the scene.

Just ten minutes later, at 11:14 p.m., while officers were still assisting the first victim, police received reports of a second shooting near Walnut Street and Bartlett Street. Officers found a 34-year-old woman with a similar facial injury.

Both victims were initially transported to Central Maine Medical Center. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were later transferred to Maine Medical Center. Authorities said both are expected to undergo surgery to remove projectiles from their faces and necks. The male victim is reported in stable, non-life-threatening condition, while the female victim remains in serious condition.

Using the City of Lewiston’s camera system and FLOCK technology, investigators were able to quickly identify the suspect vehicle. The probe led to 18-year-old Ahmed Yussuf of Lewiston, who was identified as the alleged shooter. Yussuf has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault and two counts of Reckless Conduct. He is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $100,000 cash bail.

Preliminary assessments by medical staff and investigators indicate the weapon used was likely a high-powered pellet gun. The exact nature of the projectiles will not be confirmed until they are surgically removed and examined.

The investigation remains active.
