The Maine Lobster Festival has announced that their annual Maine Sea Goddess will now be known as the Maine Lobster Festival Delegate.
Organizers say the 75 year tradition is being changed to be more inclusive.
The Coronation event is one of the first events of the festival every year. The Maine Lobster Festival takes place during the first weekend of August (Aug. 2-6), from Wednesday through Sunday.
According to the festival’s Facebook page, the event is now “open to ALL young people who are passionate about advocating for Maine’s lobster industry, regardless of gender. We also dropped the minimum age to 16 so more students can have the opportunity to participate.”
