The Maine Warden Service is investigating an incident in which a side-by-side ATV struck a local landowner and dragged him approximately 75 feet after he attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding on his private property.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night, June 2, on Pequawket Lake Road. According to officials, the landowner observed a side-by-side ATV traveling at a high rate of speed across his property. When the ATV returned a short time later, the landowner stopped the vehicle and told the operator to slow down. As the landowner tried to photograph the ATV and its registration, the driver rapidly accelerated, striking the man and dragging him before fleeing the scene.
The landowner was transported to a local hospital for treatment of abrasions and contusions and was released later that night.

- One-bench side-by-side ATV that seats two people
- Gray and black in color
- Prominent brush guard on the front
- Male operator wearing an orange shirt
- Female passenger with dark hair
