65-year-old Daniel Ryan called police yesterday afternoon, June 10, and said he was going to burn down his apartment building in Belfast if they did not respond.
The man continued to threaten to burn down the building as As Waldo County Sheriff’s deputies and Belfast Police arrived, the Ryan charged the officers with a gas can that was on fire.
Sgt. Nicholas Oettinger shot and killed him and will be placed on administrative leave as the attorney general’s office investigates.
