A Mattawamkeag man is facing multiple charges after police say he drove onto a sidewalk and struck a family of four during Lincoln’s Loonfest on Saturday.
Police say 57-year-old Carl Hartley was operating under the influence of methamphetamine when the crash happened at the intersection of Main Street and West Broadway. He is charged with OUI and drug possession and trafficking offenses and is being held on $10,000 bail.
Twenty-four-year-old Jasmine Drew suffered serious injuries, including a broken hip, broken leg and a fractured neck, after becoming trapped beneath the truck. Her fiancé, Dustin Allen, suffered four broken ribs and other injuries while helping protect the couple’s two daughters. Their 5-year-old sustained a liver injury, while their 3-month-old escaped with minor injuries.
The family says their focus in the moments after the crash was making sure the children were safe. They also expressed gratitude to first responders and community members who rushed to help.
Drew hopes the incident serves as a reminder that anyone impaired by drugs or alcohol should never get behind the wheel, saying one reckless decision can change lives in an instant.
