Agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested a 31-year-old man from the Dominican Republic Thursday afternoon, May 28, following a month-long investigation into the trafficking of fentanyl and cocaine in the central Maine area.
Jorge Luis Franco Mejia was taken into custody without incident at a Winthrop motel after agents executed a search warrant. He faces Class A Aggravated Trafficking charges involving Schedule W drugs, specifically cocaine hydrochloride and fentanyl. Bail has been set at $100,000.
During the search, agents seized approximately 180 gross grams of cocaine, 20 gross grams of fentanyl, and $1,660 in suspected drug proceeds. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $20,000.
The investigation, conducted by the MDEA’s South Central District Task Force, included undercover purchases of fentanyl and cocaine. Authorities said additional arrests and charges are expected as the case progresses.
