The Augusta Police Department, through Facebook, posted a reminder to stay alert and protect yourself from common scams that are targeting residents.

Tech Support/ Pop-Up Scams
Scammers are using fake pop-up messages on your computer screen that claim your device is infected or compromised or has inappropriate images on it. These pop-ups may urge you to call a number or click a link. Do NOT respond to these messages.
What to do:
* Close the window or restart your computer.
* Never call the number or give remote access to your devices

Imposters Coming to Your Door
We’ve also received reports of individuals showing up at homes claiming to be from government agencies or businesses, demanding immediate payment or collecting for fake services.
What to do:
* Never give cash or cards to someone who shows up unannounced.
* Ask for identification, and verify with the agency before taking any action.
* If you feel unsafe or suspect a scam, call us immediately.

Remember:
-Legitimate agencies will NEVER ask for payment via gift cards, cash pickups, or pressure you into paying immediately.
-If you think you’ve been targeted by a scam or are unsure, don’t hesitate us at 207-626-2370 or have any questions.
