UPDATE: From the Bangor Police Department:
On May 19, 2026 at 0848AM, the Bangor Police Department responded to a report of shoots being fired on March Street. Upon arrival, officers and detectives found that a resident of March Street had fired at and struck a large breed dog. The dog was injured and transported to an emergency veterinarian by the Bangor Police Animal Control Officer.
Detectives began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident. As a result of the investigation, to include video footage, the following facts were revealed:
The shooter’s toddler aged children were playing outside of the residence in a small play area in their driveway. A dog, owned by a neighbor, was not tethered nor was it under the control of its owner and ran aggressively towards the shooter and his children. The shooter yelled at the dog and the dog leaped over a small property barrier and continued to charge forward. The shooter fired at the dog, striking the animal. The dog then retreated back to its residence.
On May 20, 2026, the owner of the animal was charged with dogs at large, a civil offense.
The owner of this dog had previously been warned by the animal control officer for not controlling this specific animal.
ORIGINAL POST: Bangor police responded to a call of shots being fired in the vicinity of March Street Tuesday morning, May 19, around 8:48am.
Officers arrived and determined shots had been fired, injuring a dog. The dog was transported to a local veterinary hospital where it is being treated.
The canine is is expected to live.
There currently are no further details about this incident, however it remains under investigation.
