A routine traffic stop on Middle Road Saturday evening, May 30, escalated into a significant drug bust, with Skowhegan police removing more than 91 grams of fentanyl and additional cocaine from the streets.
At approximately 9pm, Officer Shane Lay pulled over a silver 2004 Toyota Camry for a missing registration plate and loud exhaust. During the stop, officers discovered that none of the four occupants possessed a valid driver’s license. Officer Lay called for assistance from Sgt. Joshua York and K9 Reece. The K9 performed a free-air sniff of the vehicle and its occupants, alerting on 30-year-old Sadie Macdonald of Fairfield. She was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs (fentanyl) and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs (cocaine).
51-year-old Louis Lopez was also taken into custody, facing charges of aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs (fentanyl), unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs (cocaine), and unsworn falsification.
The driver, 38-year-old Michael Griffin of Farmingdale, was charged with operating after license suspension, failure to provide proof of insurance, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection sticker.
Drugs seized in the stop include:
- 91.83 grams of fentanyl
- 27.37 grams of cocaine
- 54.06 grams of cutting substance
