MaineGeneral Health’s annual Day of Hope took place Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Augusta Civic Center.

Approximately 1,000 people came together to celebrate area cancer survivors and fighters and their caregivers.

Walk for Hope Grand Marshal and cancer survivor Bonnie Collins spoke at the inspirational opening ceremony before attendees began the 1.8-mile walk.

As of Saturday afternoon, there were $190,000 in pledges and onsite donations. All proceeds stay local to support patients and cancer care services.

In addition to the opening ceremony and walk, the event featured health screenings and education, a healthy cooking demonstration, Kid Zone, and other activities.
