On Friday, I posted a story about Pizza Hut being up for sale. A friend informed me on Saturday that it had just sold!
My first question, naturally, is what will it mean for Maine Pizza Huts?
Here’s the synopsis of a press release by former owner, YUM! Brands:
Pizza Hut is getting new owners.
Yum! Brands announced it will sell Pizza Hut for a total of $2.7 billion, splitting the chain between two buyers. Private equity firm LongRange Capital will acquire Pizza Hut operations outside mainland China for about $1.5 billion, while Yum China Holdings will purchase the China business for roughly $1.2 billion.
Yum! said the move follows a strategic review that began late last year and will allow the company to focus on its remaining brands, including KFC and Taco Bell. The company expects to receive about $2.3 billion in net proceeds from the deal and has approved an additional $4 billion stock buyback program.
The transactions are expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approval. Once completed, Pizza Hut will no longer be part of Yum! Brands’ operations.
