The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) has arrested three individuals following a month-long investigation into suspected drug trafficking at a property in Hancock that included a residence, camper trailers, and an on-site business. Agents from the MDEA’s Downeast Task Force, supported by the Maine State Police Tactical Team, executed a search warrant on Wednesday, June 3, at 221 Franklin Road. Seven people were present on the property during the search, though the property owner, John Crawford, 60, of Hancock, was not located at that time.
Arrests
- John Crawford, 60, of Hancock, was arrested on the evening of June 15, 2026, by Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputies. He faces two counts of Aggravated Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs involving cocaine base and fentanyl. He was transported to the Hancock County Jail, where bail was set at $10,000.
- Jonathan Sprague, 29, of Milbridge, was arrested during the warrant execution and charged with Class D Unlawful Possession of Schedule Drugs and Class E Violation of Conditions of Release.
- Matthew Crabtree, 33, of Ellsworth, was also arrested at the scene on a Class E Violation of Conditions of Release charge.
Seizures
During the search of the single-family residence, multiple camper trailers, and the business Hancock Cycle, agents seized:
- More than 235 grams (gross weight) of cocaine base (crack cocaine)
- 79 grams (gross weight) of fentanyl
- 12 grams (gross weight) of methamphetamine
- 5 grams (gross weight) of cocaine hydrochloride
- Four firearms
The estimated street value of the drugs exceeds $30,000. Crawford was the subject of an arrest warrant issued after the initial search. MDEA officials say additional arrests are expected in the ongoing case.
