Two Fires in Waldoboro Under Investigation

There were two unrelated fires in Waldoboro Friday, Feb. 20. One on North Nobleboro Road, the other on Friendship Road.

From the Maine State Fire Marshal: On Friday, February 20, 2026, at approximately 2:38 am, the Waldoboro Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire involving a single-story home located at 801 North Nobleboro Road in Waldoboro with fire extending through the front windows and roof. The two occupants of the home were able to escape the home with one male resident sustaining burns to his shoulder and neck. He was transported to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta. The roof had collapsed in the center of the home and the front wall had burned away. One firefighter had fallen through the floor but did not sustain any injuries. The residents were using propane space heaters inside to help with warming. Two cats and a dog perished in the fire and one dog was able to be rescued by the owner. State Fire Marshal Investigators have classified the fire as undetermined due to competing accidental causes.
Then at approximately 7:03 am, Waldoboro Fire received another call for a reported structure fire at 2231 Friendship Road in Waldoboro. When firefighters arrived, they found a barn attached to a home heavily involved in fire. The two occupants of the home had already escaped and were unhurt. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the barn with minimal damage to the home. State Fire Marshal Investigators responded to the scene and determined the cause of the fire is electrical in nature and is classified as accidental. The two fires are unrelated.
