  • Published

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, USS Farragut (DDG 99), will arrive in the port of Eastport, July 2, to participate in the city’s Independence Day celebrations.

From the U.S. Navy:

During the visit, Sailors from Farragut will participate in a variety of community relations events, including an Independence Day parade, sporting events, and engagements with local businesses and organizations. The itinerary also includes an annual blueberry pancake breakfast, the traditional Codfish Relay, and an onboard veteran’s reception featuring Fourth of July fireworks. The warship will also host public tours throughout the week, giving visitors a chance to learn more about its capabilities and role in maritime operations.

This port visit offers an opportunity for the Sailors to connect with Eastport’s rich maritime heritage and further strengthen the bond between the crew, the community, and the U.S. Navy. Arleigh Burke guided-missile destroyers are multi-mission warships that deliver both offensive and defensive capabilities. These warships can conduct Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW). They can operate independently or as part of Carrier Strike Groups (CSG), Surface Action Groups (SAG), or Expeditionary Strike Groups (ESG).
