4 Arrested After Pursuit in String of Overnight Lewiston Vehicle Thefts

Lewiston Police investigated three separate motor vehicle thefts that occurred overnight between Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21, in different parts of the city.

The stolen vehicles were taken from Pine Street, Mitchell Street, and North Temple Street. Around 4:45 a.m., officers located one of the stolen vehicles being driven on Russell Street. When the driver failed to stop for police, a pursuit ensued. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed on Sabattus Street. Six occupants then fled on foot from the wrecked vehicle.

With assistance from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, Lewiston officers captured four of the six individuals.

Arrests made in include 18-year-old Larando Sweeting of Lewiston, and three juveniles. The remaining two suspects from the vehicle fled and have not been apprehended at this time.

The other two stolen vehicles were later located unoccupied and recovered by police.

These cases remain under active investigation.
