Residents in much of Bangor’s Broadway area are being advised to boil their water after a water main break Wednesday prompted a precautionary safety measure.
The Bangor Water District said the advisory was issued because the break created the potential for contamination, even though the damaged main has already been repaired.
The water main ruptured around 10:30 a.m. and crews completed repairs by about 4 p.m.
General Manager Chuck Harrison said officials hope to lift the advisory Friday, but that will depend on the results of bacteria tests collected from five locations throughout the affected area.
Harrison said customers should not be concerned about water used before the break was repaired, explaining that it came from a storage tank rather than the damaged water main.
