Searsmont officials are holding a community fundraiser to help those impacted by the deadly fire and explosion at the Robbins Lumber mill, with a car raffle and benefit event planned later this month.
The top raffle prize is a 2018 Honda Civic that town officials say is in excellent condition. Proceeds will help workers who were injured and continue to recover, along with area fire and rescue departments that lost equipment during the emergency response. Some departments lost fire trucks and other gear that is not expected to be fully covered by insurance.
Raffle tickets cost $20 each, and only 750 will be sold, allowing the fundraiser to raise as much as $15,000 through ticket sales.
The town is also organizing a benefit barbecue and concert on Saturday, July 25, at Riverside Farm on Moody Mountain Road in Searsmont. Additional raffle prizes will be available during the event.
Tickets can be purchased at the Searsmont Town Office, with any unsold tickets available at the fundraiser. Payments at the town office may be made by cash or local check, while attendees at the event may pay with cash or a credit card.

The Robbins Lumber fire and explosion claimed three lives, and several others remain hospitalized as they recover from their injuries.
