The Maine State Police are investigating a high-speed fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning in Charlotte, where the driver was ejected from the vehicle after traveling at extreme speeds.
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, at approximately 12:48 a.m., troopers from the Northern Field Troop responded to Charlotte Road in Charlotte following notification from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver and sole occupant, Robert Boggia Jr., 40, of Whiting, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Boggia was ejected from the vehicle and was found a significant distance away from the wreckage.According to the investigation, Boggia had been at a bar in Calais where he threatened people with a firearm. He fled the bar before law enforcement arrived. Witnesses reported seeing him driving a red Corvette at an estimated speed of 150 miles per hour on Route 1 in Calais.
Baileyville Police attempted to pursue the vehicle but were unable to catch up. A Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy later observed Boggia’s Corvette traveling at a high rate of speed on Charlotte Road but was also unable to catch the vehicle. The deputy came upon the crash scene shortly afterward.
High speed is reported as the primary contributing factor in the crash.
The investigation into the events leading up to the incident remains ongoing, and toxicology results are pending.
The Maine State Police continue to investigate the crash. No further information has been released at this time.
