Fatal Motor Vehicle – Pedestrian Crash in Durham

85-year-old Peter Lowe, of Durham, who was hit and killed while crossing the roadway to check his mailbox in Durham.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Royalsborough Road and Smith Farm Road, yesterday afternoon, Nov. 18.

49-year-old Sara Bolduc of Freeport, was traveling southbound in a Ford Escape, when her vehicle struck the pedestrian.

The crash remains under active investigation.

At approximately 5:01 p.m. on November 18, 2025, the Androscoggin County Regional Communications Center received a report of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash at the intersection of Royalsborough Road and Smith Farm Road in Durham. Deputies from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, along with Durham Fire-Rescue, responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that Sara Bolduc, 49, of Freeport, was traveling southbound on Royalsborough Road in a black 2019 Ford Escape when her vehicle struck pedestrian Peter Lowe, 85, of Durham, who was crossing the roadway to check his mailbox. Mr. Lowe died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Investigators noted that he was wearing dark clothing and that the area has no street lighting. The Sheriff’s Office crash reconstructionist responded and is assisting with the ongoing investigation. The Freeport Police Department and Freeport Fire-Rescue also provided assistance at the scene.
