Authorities have arrested five juveniles in connection with a string of motor vehicle break-ins and related property damage that occurred in Madison over the weekend.
According to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to multiple reports of vehicle break-ins throughout Madison on Sunday, May 10.
In addition to the vehicle incidents, two residents reported broken windows at their homes. Investigators initially believed juveniles were responsible for the crimes.
On Monday, May 11, Deputy Michael Pike led a follow-up investigation, developing leads that quickly identified several suspects. As a result, five juveniles ranging in age from 13 to 16 were charged with multiple offenses, including Burglary, Theft, Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, and Criminal Mischief.
The cases have been forwarded to the Juvenile Community Corrections Officer for further handling. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities indicated that additional charges could be filed once the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office completes its review.
Madison residents who have not yet reported that their vehicle may have been entered or tampered with are urged to contact the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible to file a report. This will help ensure all incidents are documented and that victims can pursue any necessary insurance or recovery actions.
