A Maine teenager has become the first person in the country to be federally charged and adjudicated for conduct tied to the 764 network, according to the FBI.
The 17-year-old, whose name has not been released, was involved in what federal investigators describe as activity connected to nihilistic violent extremism, according to WABI TV.
According to the FBI, members of the 764 network often target young people on popular online platforms. Investigators say the group builds relationships with minors and then pressures or manipulates them into increasingly serious sexual and violent activity.
The Maine teen was found to have committed several acts of juvenile delinquency, federal officials say. Those included conspiring to sexually exploit a child, sexually exploiting and enticing a child, distributing child sexual abuse material, making interstate threats, cyberstalking victims and committing identity theft.
The teen will serve a period of detention before being placed under juvenile delinquent supervision.
