Last night, March 19, the Maine State Police received a request from the Topsham Police Department to activate an Amber Alert for an 11-year-old child taken from Department of
Health and Human Services (DHHS) custody.

From the Maine State Police:

Topsham Police informed Maine State Police Investigators that 11-year-old Jaiden “Jade” Morrison had been taken by her biological mother, 29-year-old Danielle Dyer during a supervised visit in Topsham with Jaiden’s DHHS foster care guardians. Topsham Police investigated the criminal complaint and shortly after 9:00 pm, obtained an arrest warrant for Dyer for the charge of Criminal Restraint by a Parent. Maine State Police investigators used cellular analysis to track Dyer’s cell phone to the area of Horton Street in Lewiston shortly after 9:33 pm. Lewiston Police Officers were dispatched to the area but could not locate the mother or the child. The Oxford County Sheriff’s Department was contacted to assist as Jaiden was residing in Oxford County at the time of her abduction. The Oxford County Sheriff’s Department issued the missing person teletype for Jaiden at 9:46 pm. Through the course of the investigation, it was
learned that Dyer has substance use disorder and that she would be travelling to the Lewiston area to seek drugs.

At 10:46 pm, the Amber Alert system was activated in Maine. At 10:59 pm, the Augusta Regional Communications Center (RCC) received a call from a female advising that Danielle Dyer had left Jaiden with her at her Auburn apartment. The Auburn Police Department dispatched officers to the apartment and secured Jaiden unharmed at 11:06 pm. At 11:07 pm, the Amber Alert was cancelled.

Danielle Dyer still has an active warrant for her arrest. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Topsham Police Department.

The Amber Alert system has been in place since 2002. This is only the 5th time it has been activated. In each use of the Alert System, it has been successful in locating the child every time.
