The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office says a crash in Stetson briefly closed Route 222, Wednesday, June 3.
The Penobscot Regional Communications Center took a report of a vehicle crash in the area of 796 Village Road in Stetson. It was reported that a vehicle struck a street sweeper, the vehicle flipped over, and was in the center of the road.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded along with the Levant Fire Department, Hermon Fire Department, and Northern Light Ambulance.
Subsequent investigation revealed a small SUV heading in the direction of Newport came up behind a street sweeper which was cleaning the break down lane. The SUV struck the street sweeper which caused the SUV to flip over coming to rest in the roadway.
The two occupants of the SUV were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the street sweeper was not hurt.
Maine DOT and Maine DEP assisted with clean up at the crash scene.
