A 45-year-old Otisfield man is expected to face numerous felony charges after authorities say he assaulted two people during a domestic violence incident on Route 121 Tuesday evening, June 30. The suspect allegedly stole a victim’s vehicle, and then crashed it.
According to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with Otisfield Rescue, Pace Ambulance, Oxford Police, and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office personnel, responded to a domestic violence call around 7:45pm. Deputies reported that the suspect assaulted an adult female victim with a weapon, lacerating her hand and strangling her. The woman fled the residence and ran into the street in an attempt to flag down passing vehicles for help.
An adult male who stopped to assist the woman was also assaulted by the suspect with a weapon. The male victim was able to get back into his own vehicle and escape. The suspect then stole the female victim’s car and crashed it nearby, sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The female victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released. The adult male victim was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was initially taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities stated the suspect currently poses no threat to the public. His identity is being withheld pending the issuance of arrest warrants, which may be delayed due to his hospitalization and medical condition.
