A routine traffic stop in Canaan late Monday night, April 13, resulted in the seizure of over 100 grams of crack cocaine and nearly 9 grams of fentanyl.
Two women from St. Albans were arrested on serious drug trafficking charges.
According to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when Deputy Allen Jones was at the Circle K in Canaan. He observed 28-year-old Shania Tripp, formerly of St. Albans, enter the passenger side of a motor vehicle. Deputy Jones knew Tripp had an active arrest warrant and was currently on probation. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on Easy Street after noticing the vehicle had an expired inspection sticker. Tripp was arrested on the outstanding warrant. During a search of her belongings—permitted under a condition of her probation—Deputy Jones discovered 86.756 grams of crack cocaine. Tripp then told the deputy she was concealing fentanyl on her person.
The driver of the vehicle, 42-year-old Krista Robinson of St. Albans, was also searched. Authorities reported that a large quantity of drugs was found discarded on the ground on the passenger side of the vehicle—items that were not present when Tripp exited the car. In total, law enforcement seized 114 grams of crack cocaine and 8.763 grams of fentanyl.
